About FATE

Q.1.1: Is there a demo I can try?
Answer: There isn’t a “demo” version of any of our games any more. What we have instead are free trials of the full game. You can download each of the following games. When you install a game, you can play it TWICE for as long as you want – there are no other limitations! After the two free trials, you’ll either need to purchase the game, or spend purchased WildCoins to continue playing.

FATE
Fate: Undiscovered Realms
Fate: The Traitor Soul

Q 1.7: Can I transfer my character from one computer to another?
Answer: Yes! (Thanks to BuggsBunny964):
Your character's file will be in an FFD format and will have a number before it. Something like 1.ffd, and it will be in the SAVE file in your game. For WinXP you can usually find them:
Fate = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WildTangent\fate\Persistent\SAVE\
Fur  = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\en-US\
Fts  = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\en-US\

For WinXP you can usually find them:
Fate: C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\fate\Persistent\SAVE\
Fur: C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\
Fts: C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\

However, your Application Data file may be hidden - to view it you'll need to:

  • Click on the "Tools" menu,
  • Choose "Folder Options."
  • Click the "View" tab. A grey box with three sections will pop up.
  • Go to the center section, about half way down, and find the option to view hidden files.
  • Click on the button next to "Show hidden files and folders."
  • The App Data file will appear, somewhat faded, but just as usable as all the other files.

Now go from app data to Wild Tangent to Fate. Inside FATE are three files, Cache, Persistent, and PersistentScreenshots.

Inside Persistent you will find SAVE, All your characters are in there. They have a number and the .ffd extension.

Once you find it, simply copy it and paste it either into an e-mail attachment, a thumb drive, or a CD. From there just paste it in to the same directory in the other computer.

Q 1.8: What’s a mod and where/how do I get them?
Answer: A “mod” is a modification to FATE. It can add weapons, monsters, spells, items, and much more to the game. For more information, check out the FATE Game Modification forum.

Also, be sure to check out the surdin FATE Mod Archive or the PCTalk FATE Mod Archive if you’re interested in downloading and trying any mods.

If you’d like to try modding yourself, there is an excellent Tutorial Archive available that will be able to answer 99% of your questions.

Q 2.2: Do all items have an equal chance of getting bonuses/curses/nothing when enchanting?
Answer: This is an unconfirmed list of percentages:

  • Yellow item:
    • 20% to get socket(s)
    • 4.8% to remove all powers
    • 75.2% nothing happens

  • Teal item:
    • 20% to get socket(s)
    • 40% to get extra enchantment(s)
    • 2.4% to remove all powers
    • 37.6% nothing happens

  • White/Blue item:
    • 20% to get sockets
    • 40% to get extra enchantment(s)
    • 10% to get “imbued with unique powers” (gets a bunch of enchantments and becomes teal)
    • 1.8% to remove all powers
    • 28.2% nothing happens

If you don’t like these percentages, and have version 1.21 of FATE, you can download Siao’s X-Mod. This allows you to change Rikko’s enchantment rates.

Q 2.3: How can I get past level 99?
Answer: You can’t. This is the maximum, hard-coded level in FATE. However, you can continue to descend deeper and deeper into the dungeon. While you will no longer level up, you will continue to get better gear to help you fight increasingly difficult monsters.

Q 2.8: Where are my saved games located?
Answer: This depends on your operating system and the game:
Your character's file will be in an FFD format and will have a number before it. Something like 1.ffd, and it will be in the SAVE file in your game. For WinXP you can usually find them:
Fate = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WildTangent\fate\Persistent\SAVE\
Fur  = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\en-US\
Fts  = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\en-US\

For WinXP you can usually find them:
Fate: C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\fate\Persistent\SAVE\
Fur: C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\
Fts: C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\fateundiscoveredrealms\Persistent\SAVE\

The easiest way to get to this folder is by pressing the key combination WINDOWS+R to bring up the run menu, and then pasting the pertinent (Vista or XP) address into the box, then hitting OK. If you do it this way, you can get to the folder even if your computer is set to hide hidden files and system folders – just make sure you type in the address exactly!

Q 2.9: I can’t get my hotkeys to work for my spells. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: (Thanks to iubigler) You need to roll your cursor over your spells in the in-game menu; make sure you’re not using the spellbook. Once it shows the spell description in Gameplay, hit one of the “F#” keys.
