Combat Art Modification
The explanation for how Combat Art modification works starts with
your character's skills. Each of your character's Aspects has two
Skills associated with it. Here is a list for quick reference:
In order to earn and use modification points you will need to apply a set amount of points into the Skills that are associated with the Aspect of the Combat Art that you want to modify. To earn your first modification per Aspect you will need 3 points into the Skills for that Aspect. For instance, let's say that I want to modify the Shadow Warrior's Combat Art Killing Spree. The Aspect for Killing Spree is Malevolent Champion. Therefore, I would need 3 total Skill points applied to Malevolent Champion Focus and/or Tactics Lore. It doesn't matter if the 3 points are all put into a single Skill or split between both Skills as long as to total combined number is 3. The Shadow Warrior really lucks out because Tactics Lore applies to two different Aspects. Which means that if you put 3 points into Tactics Lore you will earn a modification point for both the Death Warrior and Malevolent Champion Aspects at the same time! Now it isn't always 3 points for each new modification point. Only the first modification of each Aspect required 3 points total into the associated Skills. It hasn't been tracked all the way to the max number of Skill points yet, however I can give you an idea of how it goes...
So you've earned a modification point and want to know how to use it? Below are a few screenshots of the Combat Art menu and modification menu to help make the following information easier to follow.
If you hover the mouse over the Status bar (marked above) information about that Aspect's modifications status will appear.
First, you can only modify a Combat Art that you have already "learned" and each Combat Art has three columns of modifiers: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each column has two modification choices, be careful which you choose because you'll only ever be able to choose one modification per column. (You also cannot remove a modification in order to change your mind later.) That means that each Combat Art can have a maximum of three modifiers. Note that you also have to choose your modifications in order, which means that the first time you modify a certain Combat Art you must choose one of the Bronze modifiers, then Silver and lastly you can choose from the Gold modifiers. You can tell what Combat Arts you have modified at a glance by just looking at the icons on the Combat Art screen. Each Combat Art icon has three small circles on it's bottom right. If you have modified the Combat Art once a bronze dot will appear inside the first circle and so on for the other two modifications. A list of all the modifications can be found on the character pages with their Combat Art lists.
