Single Player vs. Multiplayer
♦ Single
Player:
This is your average type of playing, you play through the game by yourself,
following the Main Quest Campaign while saving your game and quest status on
your computer.
♦
Multiplayer:
Closed:
Your game is saved on Ascaron's servers instead of your computer. Which makes it
a bit more secure as well as protects your character from computer crashes.
Open:
The game files are stored on your computer and just accessed through the
internet, therefore you can alter you game files, if you know how, in order to
cheat in game. (which violates both your Sacred User Agreement as well as
Copyright Laws, making it illegal!)
How do you tell who is cheating? Well here is one way:
LAN (Local Area Network):
These games are hosted and played by people on the same local area network.
Note: All character are automatically saved when leaving any game
server regardless of game type or style. Also you must be running the
most updated version of the game in order to access Multiplayer,
Patches to update your game can be found
here.
Game Styles:
♦ Hard Core:
When you die you can not resurrect and you also lose all your items.
♦ Soft Core:
When you die you resurrect at the island, but your Survival Bonus is set to
zero.
Game Types:
♦
Campaign/Cooperative:
Only available in open, LAN or on a Dedicated Game Server. Campaign
allows you to play the Main Quests and save your progress. When you return later
after saving you can load it (may need an empty game to do it). Note that only
the first person in the game/host has the “Save” option! It is possible to let
everyone save his or her game; by having the host save and leave the game. When
the host leaves, host status is transferred to another remaining player. So if
each person as they become host saves and leaves the game, everyone will be able
to save as host status is transferred.
♦ PvP
(Player vs. Player):
You can damage other players who are not in your party – you cannot damage party
members. Main Quests are not available, but the side quests are. Unless
you are playing with the expansion in which case the Underworld Campaign is
available. You cannot save your progress in these games; the quest log is reset
every time you come back, but your character does keep any portals that have
been activated, and it also remembers the map areas you’ve uncovered.
