Blue Modifiers These are magical bonuses that effect the character's skills, attributes or other statistics. If a  blue  bonus starts with a character class name in a different color this just means that it effects a Combat Art that is for that character class only and the different color is of course the color for that class. Examples of magical bonuses: Regeneration Spells: +X, Strength: +X, +X% to Defense, Speed: +X, etc.   Blue Modifiers These are magical bonuses that effect the character's skills, attributes or other statistics. NOTE: Rings can have a Damage or Protection attribute and sometimes they have both.

A lot of people get these mixed up. Some assume they are the same thing. However they are not.

Defense is your likelihood to be hit, if you have a high defense enemies will have a very hard time hitting you and will often simply swipe aimlessly at the air, not connecting with you at all.

Protection however is more like your Armor Rating in other RPGs, it is tied in with your resistance and reduces the damage that you actually take whenever you ARE hit.

Resistances are very similar to Protection, they are basically what helps to decideyour protection, but are more specific. They guard against certain typesof damage. For example you can have a very high fire resistance, butvery little physical resistance, so fire-based attacks will do littledamage to you while physical attacks will seriously hurt.

You can view your defense, protection and resistances if you open your inventory and hover over the portion that is just above your equipment. The stats will appear in the top section, where your skills/attributes usually are. You'll also notice that if you have a very high resistance in one or more elements, then there will be a "+15% * resistance" that appears in the set items section next to your helmet. You'll also get a glow around your character with a color that corresponds to the resistance which is high.

The overall bonus list looks like this:
