Which is your favorite OS (operating system)/ Shell ?

(As technically windows < 9x is only a shell (graphical display) which runs from DOS and so not an operating system as such - bit techie)

I think I'd say either Windows98 or 2000, but am unsure as to which, and of course MS-DOS was good, at the time.

I would have to say Mac OS from back in the enlightened age when I used a 128K Mac Classic.

Of the M$ offerings, I think I prefer Win XP best so far.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Macs.

I agree Win XP is Microsoft's best effort yet. I also use Ubuntu and PClinuxOS. So my choice was other.

I would have to go with XP also.

I tried both Xp home and pro, but i found for gamers and home users the "home" version (?) is enough, pro does have some nice thingies but its nothing to write home about....

Windows XP Pro is pretty descent. You can simulate DOS or use a software program to play old games. It is really easy to network your computers and I find it the best of all the commercial OS's. What say you?

True, but as a home-user i found out when i switched that although Win XP Pro has some more funtions, its enough to use the Home version.

This might come in handy when you want to play a game wich is barely running on your system, cause pro does have more procceses running and does ask more ram.

A tip for xp users now i think of it;
When you are trying to use a program and your system has trouble with it, set windows in classic mode.
It will be easier on your system.

I switched mine to Classic View immediately after I installed it. I never really liked the random colors and the thick title bars, and I loved the Windows 2000 GUI when I had it installed, so it only made sense to switch the view. When Vista comes out, I'm going to try and keep it at the default GUI and see if I can get used to it.

The major difference is between Home and Pro is the networking and permissions set. Pro was made with networks in mind.
