Business Practices

Have you been wronged by a local company lately?
Has a local company done a good deed?
If so, send an email to the Webmaster and I will consider adding the details to this page.

For this to be effective, I must have full information on you, the company, and exactly what happened with dates, times, and all particulars. If you do not send your full information, I will assume you are not being honest about your complaint since neither I nor the company will have any way to contact you about any resolution of the problem. I will publish everything, except your personal information, in the hopes that the company will feel some impact from the information either good or bad.

Once a page is published, feel free to notify the company, and as many people as you can, about the URL. If nothing else, you can let the world know your views. We will not publish sour-grapes type stories, but will make public anything that the public should know about before trying to buy anything from any source.

Computer Renaissance of Annapolis
A local francise company, Computer Renaissance of Annapolis, wanted a 25% restocking fee for something I tried to return unopened within three days of purchase! At the time of purchase I was asked to sign the receipt. I thought it was only to show that I had taken delivery of the merchandise. When I asked why I had to sign, I was told, "It's just our policy." If I had taken the time to read what I was signing or if the clerk had told me there was a 25% restocking fee, I would not be bringing this up in this way now.

Verizon Wireless
My mother had a stroke and I was desperately trying to think of a way that we could ensure we would stay in touch with her yet give her some amount of freedom. I thought getting mobile phones for me, my wife, and my mother would be ideal as Mom could not only contact us whenever and whereever she was but would be able to call 911 as well if something happened when her standard phone was unreachable. I got the phones and a 1400 minutes/month family plan and went down to Florida to give her one of the phones. Unfortunately, she had another stroke while I was there and never had a chance to use her new phone.

Some months later, she died peacefully in a Nursing Facility, still never having used the phone. My wife and I have to almost force ourselves to use them as they are foreign to our way of life, so I thought I would try to at least drop the service on the one that was never used. No matter what I did or who I talked to in Tech Support was I able to find anyone who would alow me to drop the phone service without having to pay a heavy penalty! Finally, I thought to contact the sales representative who had sold me the phones and the plan.

Martin Butler, who worked at the Verizon Wireless booth in Circuit City, Annapolis, MD at the time, listened to my problem and what I had done to try to resolve it. He told me he would make a few calls to see if he could resolve it and would call back. I don't know how many people he talked to but I do know that less than a day later he called to let me know that he had managed to get the service for the unused phone dropped with no penalty.
