The portal will bring you to this location:

Kill the Sakkara Demon that is guarding the gate:

When it dies it will drop a Dimension Gate Glyph:

Take the Glyph and walk back into the Gate (into the mouth of the skull), this will destroy the Gate:

When the Gate is destroyed Vilya will appear to die and Valor's Ghost will appear:
