OS & Uninstalling & reinstalling after upgrades or refurbish

Postby Saber » Fri 2008 Jan 25 3:57

Can anybody share some hard learned insites to dealing w/ your lic. copy of XP Pro when you either try to boot up from previous OS partition on the HD w/ upgrades and best way to deal with old load when you do a major refurbish and need to unistall old and reistall new on the new system you have created in old computer? Any insights into managing changes with the least hassles would be greatly appreciated? OEM's and retail seem to create different challenges?

That's a rather confusing post. Let's try to break it down into simpler portions. What is the OS for the original system?

Do you have the original media for your system, i.e., can you do a full reinstall if needed?

Do you have the CD for the upgrade?

Do you want your system to dual boot or just have the latest OS only?

Do you have the CD for the upgrade? The upgrades were HW and the fact that MS does'nt seem to want to allow even a slight change in your signature? So end up w/ needing to wipe orig. OS and reinstalling again w/ phone call to get recognized as legit?

Just trying to figure an easier way to refurbish and/or upgrade w/o hassles regarding MS WGA slowing me down? ( OS verification software used now - whatever it's called = Windows Genuine Auth.????

Yup, that's what it is and if you want to continue using Microsoft products, you are going to have to put up with it.

Personally, I'm thinking seriously of getting an Apple computer for my next system. Either that or a no-OS system and install Linux. I'm really tired of the way Microsoft treats their customer base.

Hi, if your thinking of getting a Linux PC, you may be interested in this article:

So what's stopping you from ordering hardware with no software, i.e., no OS, and installing what you want later? Knowing the market place, they would probably charge even more for the bare hardware! :thmdn:

That's why I've built my own machine from parts lying around from the dark ages. :tu2:
