Postby Lester » Sun 2007 Mar 11 2:09

Still don't believe it. I went to 5 different maps on mapquest and after I insert address and enter my computer reboots. Have the basics.

Perhaps they don't like you? :O

Send me, via PM, the address you are using and I will try it to see if the same happens to me.

OK, I just tried the address you sent and got the mapquest information right away. I suspect it has something to do with your computer. I'm using WinXP SP2 and you are using Win 2K SP2.

Perhaps someone who knows how to read a HiJackThis log will chip in with their two cents. :2p:

Let's try to get an error message. This is needed here.

1) Right Click "My Computer"
2) Select "Properties"
3) Select the "Advanced" tab
4) Under the "Startup and Recovery" section, click the "Settings" button
5) Under the "System Failure" section, uncheck "Automatically Restart"

This will create an error with a number we can look up to figure out the cause of the problem. Make sure to write the number down. It should be on a blue screen.

I would highly recommend updating your service pack, since it may correct the problem.

Address F63B2002 base at F63AF000, Date Stamp 38439a2a-trid3d.dll
Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete. Contact support.
Which is the error #? Did update to SP3. and still crash.

There's a few things that could cause this.
Let's test your memory
You will need a floppy disk for this Microsoft Memory testing tool.
ref: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

After that,
Let's eliminate the Video card as a problem.

1) Restart computer in safe mode
2) Remove the display adapter
3) Restart in Normal Mode
4) Reinstall your Display Drivers

"Stop 0x0000050" is the error message.

(0xFBA2D730, 0x00000000, 0xF63B2002,0x00000000) is dependant upon your configuration.

Address F63B2002 is the memory address.
Date Stamp 38439a2a is the time and date code of the error.

-trid3d.dll should be what caused the error. This also tells me you have a trident 3d videocard.

You cannot. you will be removing the video card drivers, not the physical video card.

Resolved memory errors :-D but still same memory dump occurs at mapquest. Performed memory test successfully. For the video driver I need to know which program to use to open the driver file. It's zip ext. Which program do I use to open? And I put the monitor driver on a floppy. Is that OK? Getting closer.

for .zip files, you can use winzip, winrar, and a slew of others. I would recomend winzip because it's easy.

Just doing it.

To get into safe mode, you can press either F5 or F8 as your system is booting and before windows starts. F5 will take you directly into Safe Mode. F8 will give you a menu of options, one of which is to start in Safe Mode.

Think I did it right. Was successful in driver reinstall but still memory dumps on any address in Mapquest and same error message. Too much buffering in streaming video also that I need desperately. Down the pipes gain. :toil2: Wizard says both devices working correctly also.

Perhaps you just don't have enough memory for what you are trying to do? Do you have anything other than Windows and your browser running when you try to get a map?

Perhaps some of the memory is marginally bad? Do you try to get into the maps as soon as you start up or after you've been running a while?

Perhaps you don't have enough video memory? Does your video card share the main RAM or does it have its own? I don't remember seeing any mention of the video card or how much memory it has ...

Don't know if this will work for your system but it may.
  1. Click on Start\Run and type in "msinfo32" (try "msinfo" if that doesn't work)
  2. Click on the + to the left of Components to expand it
  3. Click on Display
  4. Copy the Name, Adapter Type, and Adapter RAM.

Was wondering why it wasn't in system info. Thanks. Looks to me it has no RAM. Is that correct and probably the reason confirmed by the original message as stated by cmptch?

Name Trident Video Acclerator Blade 3D
Adapter Type Trident Blade 3D, Trident Compatible
Resolution 1024 x768 x60 hertz
Bits/Pixel 16

Do you think more RAM will fix it or another video adapter with it's own RAM?

You could try lowering your resolution first to see if it solves the problem. A lower resolution would use less shared RAM to display your map.

If that solves the problem, then more RAM might be a solution. A new video card with its own memory would probably be a better, though more expensive, solution.

Let's wait and see what cmptch has to say.

Before we go into a little more advanced stuff, I want you to try this. It is very important that it gets all done in safe mode.

1. In safe Mode: Turn off paging file. We want NO virtual memory.
2. Reboot the computer into safe mode. This will ensure that the changes have been made.
3. Defrag the hard drive
4. Set Virtual Memory to Windows management.
5. Reboot into Safe Mode.
6. Verify that the Page File is turned on.
7. Reboot into normal mode and try mapquest again.

If it works, I'll tell you my theory.

Couldn't find how to turn off virtual paging file. Didn't see any switches to do so. File at present --98 to 600 MB. Any hints? :(
